Pachinko, starring Lee Min Ho and Kim Min Ha, won Best Foreign Language Series at the 28th Critics Choice Awards.
The Apple TV+’s hit period drama, based on the bestselling novel of the same name, beat eight nominees in the category, including ENA’s series Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
Pachinko is based on the novel of the same name by Korean-American author Lee Min-Jin, spanning decades of family drama and four generations of protagonists, starting with the Japanese occupation of Korea and family members’ immigration to the United States of America.
Pachinko bests “1899,” “Bogen” and “Kleo” on Netflix, “Garcia!” and “My Brilliant Friend” on HBO, “The Kingdom Exodus” on MUBI, and another Apple TV+ series “Tehran.” It is the second South Korean series to win the Best Foreign Language Series award.
Lead actress Kim Min-Ha, who played the role of Sunja, attended the awards ceremony along with other cast members. Extraordinary Attorney Woo’s lead, Park Eun-bin, was also in attendance.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Park Bo-Gyoon, sent a congratulatory message to the production team of Pachinko, expressing that the portrayal of the lives of Korean immigrants in Japan and the United States was depicted with “outstanding sensitivity.”
The award-winning series has eight episodes and is available on Apple TV+.
