A story of a married Japanese woman falling in love with an underground idol and losing her fortune because of him currently circulates the internet, and the question is, how?
Seoul News reports Japanese media Gendai Business covering the story of housewife A, 44 years of age, who fell in love with a “Jihadol,” an underground idol in Japan. A “Jihadol” is an “idol” working in underground concert halls, and after their performance, they take pictures, talk and interact with fans who visit them.
The underground Jihadol culture makes meet-ups possible by paying a large sum in exchange for building a bond through special exhibitions. According to the report, special events usually take about 100 seconds to select desired items and members during handshakes, photography, conversation, and filming. At the moment, about 10,000 people, including local idols, work as underground idols in Japan.
Seoul News reported that the Japanese woman lost her fortune of 2.5 million Yen (about 24 million KRW) to a man who pretended to be Korean and worked as a “Jihadol.” While living in Tokyo with her husband and elementary school daughter, A fell in love with the idol as she spent more time staying home due to COVID-19. Then, she met group member B, 19 years of age, who introduced himself as a Korean at Shin Okubo, a Korean town in Tokyo.
In the interview, A recalled that it was an opportunity to receive the performance leaflet, adding how she was excited when she heard “Come to see the performance” on the face that resembled a Korean idol. A visited Shin-Okubo every week to see B and spent 40,000 Japanese Yen, equivalent to 400,000 KRW, per time on tickets. She spent a large sum every week competing with other women and was able to “date” B in six months.
However, it was later revealed that 19-year-old B was a Japanese man who spoke Korean well. A said that she felt stupid when she found out about this. She spent all the money she saved but will take this experience as a lesson.
