BLACKPINK’s highly-anticipated second full-length album “BORN PINK” has yet to come out next month, but it already surpassed more than two million pre-orders as of Thursday, August 25, the group’s agency stated.
“This is a record for K-pop female acts of all time,” YG Entertainment stated. “We can expect the album to break 3 million with about three weeks left before its release.”
The milestone was the first for any female artist in history. It even broke BLACKPINK’s own record in 2020, when it generated over one million stock pre-orders for their debut album called “The Album.”
The quartet also broke records with the release of their new single “PINK VENOM” on Friday, August 19. It became the first song from Korea and a female group that earned 7.9 million streams during its debut, while its music video reached 90.4 million views in 24 hours to make it the biggest music video premiere in 2022.
Also this Thursday, BLACKPINK members were spotted at the Incheon International Airport for their flight to the US. The girls will perform “PINK VENOM” live for the first time at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards at New Jersey’s Prudential Center on August 28. They will also compete in multiple categories, including the Best K-pop, Best Metaverse Performance, and the Best Group of the Year.
