Blackpink’s recent single, Pink Venom, continues to dominate local and international music charts. The girl group pop sensations conquered the giant charts of Spotify, YouTube, and Billboard. That is why Blinks were caught off-guard by the KBS Music Bank committee’s decision to expel the hit single from its show and charts.

According to music industry sources, KBS’ music review committee deemed Pink Venom unfit for broadcast and removed it from their weekly music show Music Bank’s charts. Why did they make such a controversial decision on a single that debuted and occupied the top of many domestic charts?

The reason for Pink Venom’s ineligibility is cited in Article 46 of the Broadcasting Review Regulations. The article states that a song’s lyrics should not include brand or product names. Blackpink’s single included big fashion brands Coco [Chanel] and CELINE.

In general, labels would choose to amend the lyrics and request reconsideration. However, reports stated that YG Entertainment chose not to rewrite the song and petition for its reconsideration. Thus, Pink Venom is deemed ineligible for winning KBS’ Music Bank.

However, it’s not truly a loss for Blackpink and Blinks. Pink Venom continues to top several domestic weekly music awards MBC’s Show Champion, Mnet’s M Countdown, and SBS’s Inkigayo

Blinks anticipate Blackpink’s comeback with the premiere of their second full-length album BORN PINK. The pop group is set to begin their world tour for BORN PINK this October.
