Multi-awarded film Broker bags another trophy after it won the Best Director Award at the 16th Asian Film Awards.

Broker, which won the Best Actor Award at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival, is a film centered on the journey of those who work in the business of delivering abandoned babies to their new families. Director Hirokazu Koreeda received the award held in Hong Kong on March 12, 2023.

According to Star News, the Asian Film Awards is an international film festival held to extract the essence of Asian films, honor artists in countries in Asia, promote the unity of Asian filmmakers, and honor their hard work.

In his acceptance speech, Hirokazu Koreeda expressed, “At the end of the journey, I received a wonderful gift. This is also thanks to the excellent Korean staff and great actors. Thank you. I accept it as a criticism and encouragement to continue to make films that go beyond the cultural and language differences, and I will continue to make films in the future.”

Broker continues to gain enthusiastic reviews in its global box office relay, including North America, France, Spain, and the UK. The film will premiere in Germany on March 16 and in Australia on March 20. Broker stars the kindhearted broker Sang Hyun, played by Song Kang Ho. Though he owns a laundry shop, he volunteers at a nearby church with his friend, Dong Soo, played by Kang Dong Won, and often steals abandoned babies in the church’s baby box and finds new parents for them. One day, they encounter So Young, played by IU, who returns after dropping her baby. She, Sang Hyun, and Dong Won embark on a journey to find potential parents for her child.
