BTS’ Japanese Compilation “BTS, The Best” reaches another milestone. The album sold 782,000 copies after its first week of release in its debut. This propelled BTS to rank first on Oricon’s annual rankings for 2021.
Now, they’ve made another record after their album sold more than a million copies.
According to Japan’s Oricon Chart, the album sold more than 3,000 copies between December 27, 2021, and January 2, 2022.
BTS has sold over a million copies of its Japanese compilation album “BTS, The Best” (2021), making the band the first non-Japanese artist in over 16 years to become a million-seller. The accumulated sales reached 1,002,000 copies sold within six months.
Oricon wrote that they are the second foreign artist to make this feat on their official website. The first one was Korean veteran singer BoA, whose 2005 compilation album “Best of Soul” reached nearly 1.1 million copies in sales.
In the 2021 Oricon Annual Ranking, the album won first place in the “Album Ranking by Work Sales Category with an earned revenue of 18.48 billion yen. They made 7.20 billion Japanese Yen with “BTS, The Best” DVDs. They are the first artists in 37 years to win this. In addition to that, BTS is the first foreign artist to make number one in the “Total Ranking of Sales by Artists,” based on the total sales of music software.
The compilation album holds Japanese songs released in Japan from 2017 to 2021. Their Japanese song “Film Out” and other tracks exceeded 400 million cumulative views. According to Oricon, these are the highest views made in the shortest period in the history of their Streaming Ranking.
BTS selling over a million copies makes them the 14th non-Japanese artist and second K-Pop artist to reach this breakthrough.
