BTS member Jungkook is embroiled in allegations of plagiarism with his solo debut track “SEVEN” ft. Latto.
According to the news outlet Alpha Economy, Seven is suspected of borrowing the “same scale sequence” as a key melody of Fin.K.L’s 2000s track “Time of Mask.”
Alpha Economy’s source stated, “It has been confirmed that the seven-and-a-half notes of the time-main melody of the Fin.K.L’s Time of Mask and Jungkook, which were composed by several foreign composers, are all too identical. I understand that some of the famous Korean composers have expressed their position that they are harmoniously identical.”
Fin.K.L.’s Time of Mask was composed by Yang Joon-Young, famous for being one of KPop’s original composers back in the day. According to the report, composer Yang Joon-young reportedly sent prima facie evidence that included the sound source and the notes to A, one of the major producers of HYBE.

HYBE gave an informal response on the matter, stating that the board of directors chairman, Bang Si-Hyuk, is currently on a business trip in the US and unable to report and deliver related data. Hence there is no response. HYBE also made no official statement or comment on these allegations.
Meanwhile, Jung-kook’s solo debut song “Seven” topped the U.S. Billboard “Global 200” and “Global” (excluding the U.S.) charts for five consecutive weeks.
