IU’s agency EDAM Entertainment released the results of the lawsuit they filed against a netizen who constantly defamed the idol online. On June 21, the netizen who “habitually posts insults, slander, and maliciously posts about Lee on social media” was sentenced to eight months of a suspended prison sentence with two years of probation.
According to the Korea JoongAng Daily, EDAM Entertainment affirmed that there’d be no leniency or agreements dealing with such violators. They stated, “We will take strict measures against any other netizens who engage in similar acts.”
The agency divulged that they’ve been collecting and providing evidence of posts by the netizen identified as “A.”
“Through years of investigation, we were able to receive a ruling that A’s actions were indeed a violation of Lee’s rights, and A was sentenced to eight months of a suspended prison sentence with two years of probation and 180 hours of community service. A will also have to receive 40 hours of education on sexual violence on charges of violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation) and other charges.”
Should netizen A continue to engage in such acts even after the court’s ruling, EDAM Entertainment will ensure that A will meet the severe punishment. The agency will always take action, so their artists’ rights are protected.
