After a YouTube channel revealed on March 6 that Han So Hee’s mother is being sued for fraud due to debts worth tens of millions of won, the actress’ agency released a statement to clear her name regarding the Electronic Financial Transactions Act filed against her.

According to the statement released by 9ato Entertainment, Han So Hee’s mother took advantage of a bank account under the actress’ name without her knowledge. Ms. Shin, the actress’ mother, opened the account when she was still a minor and used it to borrow money.

The agency also revealed that the incident happened several times, and the mother also forged a private document to get money under the actress’s account. It resulted in a civil trial, which eventually proved that Han So Hee was not involved in the said transactions.

“The Ulsan District Court’s final ruling on April 8, 2021 stated, ‘Money was borrowed using an account under Han So Hee’s name, but it is insufficient to acknowledge that Han So Hee is jointly responsible for the debt due to this, so there is no evidence to acknowledge [her involvement],’” the agency stated.

Before the court ruling, Han So Hee replied to the reports about her mother’s debt problems in an interview in July 2020. She revealed that she was not in contact with her mother and only became aware of her debts when she turned 20. But before her showbiz debut, she decided to repay her mother’s debt in her capacity.

“I was so young at the time, and through my immature judgment, I thought that the only solution was to repay the debt in her stead. However, I think that ended up causing more victims in the end, so I apologize,” the actress said during the previous interview.

The agency currently apologizes for the controversy involving their actress, but they released a new statement about it to prevent her mother from borrowing money in the future.

In addition, the agency reiterated that the actress does not wish to be responsible for her mother’s debt. “This is to block from the source the actions of [Ms. Shin] using her daughter’s name to borrow money and abusing the fact that her daughter is a famous celebrity to borrow money.”
