Actress Kim Sae Ron’s legal woes escalated after the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted her without detention on December 16 on charges of Road Traffic Act violation, reports revealed early this week.
According to reports, Chief Prosecutor Choi Woo Young of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 5 ruled to indict the actress and her passenger without detention and handed over the case to the court for trial.
Kim Sae Ron was suspected of causing damages to properties while driving under the influence when it hit several guardrails and trees in Gangnam District’s Cheongdam neighborhood on May 15.
The incident also destroyed a transformer, causing a 3-hour disruption in the electricity supply of 57 business establishments nearby.
During the incident, the actress’ blood alcohol level reached approximately 0.2 percent, surpassing the minimum 0.08 percent threshold for revoking her driver’s license. She also refused to have her blood alcohol level checked, so the police requested a blood collection test from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.
After the incident, Kim Sae Ron posted a handwritten apology letter and uploaded it on social media, saying, “I have no excuses for this unfortunate incident, and I feel so ashamed and disappointed in myself for the mistake I made.”
Because of the incident, the actress had to quit her role in the drama “Trolley.” She also ended her contract with her agency GOLDMEDALIST.
The police forwarded the case to the prosecution in late June, then the office released its decision just last week.
