“My ID is Gangnam Beauty!” is perhaps one of the best webtoons to KDrama adaptations and remains unprecedented with its perfect mix of romance, drama, and quirkiness that made a mark. Hence, it’s no surprise it will have a Thai series adaptation years later.
South Korean tech giant Naver Webtoon, the webtoon’s platform, confirmed that the webtoon “My ID Gangnam Beauty” will be adapted into a TV drama series in Thailand. Thai production company GMMTV created the perfect cast with in-demand stars Baifern Pimchanok, Win Metawin, Fah Yongwaree, and Great Sapol.
“Beauty Newbie” is a 14-part series about a female college freshman having a fresh start in life after undergoing plastic surgery. However, Naver stated that “Beauty Newbie” is not the remake of the famous 2018 South Korean adaptation series.
“My ID is Gangnam Beauty!” competed in The Greatest Webtoon Contest in 2015. Though it didn’t get the opportunity to be featured on Naver, the webtoon was serialized in 2016.
Currently, the series has recorded more than 14 billion views worldwide and is available in Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, English, and Spanish.
According to a statement via Naver Webtoon, author Kimaenggi expressed, “though ‘My ID is Gangnam Beauty’ was adapted for the small screen as a JTBC drama in 2018, I realized the global popularity of webtoons after hearing that a Thai drama is being made based on my webtoon. I am looking forward to seeing how it will come out.”
Fans of the original South Korean adaptation expressed their excitement about the upcoming Thai series though they’ll have to wait long as “Beauty Newbie” is set to premiere in the first half of 2024.
