NewJeans continues to pave their way with their new track, “Ditto,” from their new and upcoming album, “OMG.”
Months after their breakout album “NewJeans” and days after bagging three “Rookie of the Year” awards at the Asia Artist Awards, the Fact Music Awards, and the Melon Music Awards, they show an amazing, heart-wrenching and mind-boggling side A and side B of Ditto.
According to The Korea Herald, Ditto is a reinterpretation of the Baltimore club music genre, specially produced for NewJeans’ official fandom, Bunnies. The genre originated in Maryland City in the US in the early 1990s and is a fusion of breakbeat and house genres. According to Korea JoongAng Daily’s report, the Baltimore club music genre is a fusion of hip-hop and house music. NewJeans member Minji took part in the writing process for this track.
Hours after its release, “Ditto” bagged the No. 1 spot on South Korea’s Melon Chart, Bugs, and Genie. Ditto’s two parts continue to go viral as NewJeans embodies a solid grasp of nostalgia, friendship, loneliness, and oddity in a coming-of-age movie-like aesthetic.
