Defamation charges against South Korean girl group April’s former member Lee Hyun-Joo have been dropped. On Wednesday, her legal representative Yeobaek announced the police’ decision.
Korea JoongAng Daily covered Yeobaek’s statement. The legal representative announced that the police dropped all defamation complaints filed by DSP Media and April members. The reason behind it is that the police found it too difficult to prove that Lee’s aim is to slander or spread false information.
Yeobaek also added that they’d take legal actions against those who create false information regarding Lee.
Despite April’s disbandment, Lee is not receiving the support of the majority of netizens due to the nature of the “revealing of the truth” by the anonymous that claimed to be her brother. After the announcement of April’s disbandment, her Instagram was flooded with comments that claimed the members were innocent.
Former member Kim Chae-won appealed to the police. On her YouTube channel, the singer said she realized how difficult it is to prove when something is not true. Though the results weren’t favorable to her, she spoke the truth and told no lies. Therefore, she can live her life with pride.
