After a military court sentences former Big Bang member Seungri to three years of imprisonment for his participation in the Burning Sun scandal, the High Court for Armed Forces dropped a decision on January 27 to reduce his sentence to one year and six months.

Former Big Bang member Seungri may get out of prison earlier than expected.

Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, is currently charged with nine violations. It includes the violation of Food Sanitation Act, violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, habitual gambling, Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, habitual gambling, embezzlement, Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes violation, special violence instigation, and purchase of prostitution services.

Both the military court and Seungri’s representatives have yet to release official statements regarding the sentence reduction. But speculations claimed that it was the result of the former idol’s decision to plead guilty to all charges filed against him.

Aside from the sentence reduction, Seungri was also ordered to pay a fine worthKRW 1,156,900,000 ($994,544).

As of this writing, Seungri already served approximately five months of his current sentence. If his new sentence is already finalized, he will be released from prison in one year.
