A South Korean candidate for the head of the youth division of the People Power Party (PPP) is currently disparaged on social media for his past fanfic that is allegedly about National Treasure IU, written in a perverse manner that surfaced on Sunday.
34-year-old Jang Ye-Chan wrote the webnovel entitled “Gangnam Huata” in 2015-2016. Korea JoongAng Daily reports that the webnovel is about an oriental medicine doctor who helps patients recover through sexual intercourse. The novel came into controversy as a female character depicted in the novel is a singer named Lee Ji-Eun, the Korean pop star IU’s legal name. The name could’ve been called an unfortunate incident. However, the particular character is someone unable to sing high notes due to vocal cord nodules, which the idol has.
Uaenas, IU’s fans, and Jang’s opponent for the PPP Supreme Council, Lee Ki-in, openly criticized Jang for his tasteless sexual objectification of IU.
However, Jang feels nothing. In fact, he doubled down on this matter, posting on Facebook, “If you have issues with [the contents in] a fantasy novel, will anyone be able to make any movie, drama, webtoon and novels?” He deemed this controversy a “political maneuver” by left-wing media.
