South Korea’s Ministry of Justice will introduce a new visa that’ll change the country and lives of international hopefuls who want to learn more about the country.

The new visa is called the “Hallyu visa,” in the name of the Korean wave that makes foreigners come to the country to learn. The mechanics of the Hallyu visa is that the applicants, international students mainly, will receive a short-term visa spanning one to two years. They will get this by registering on Korean private institutes such as drama or dance academies.

As reported by Korean JoongAng Daily, foreigners often became eligible for visas by applying at local universities or signing contracts with entertainment agencies. The Hallyu Visa will make the process easier for international aspirants by shortening and simplifying the process.

While foreigners rejoice at this news, locals are not fond of the idea. They brought up concerns of how there’ll be people set to abuse the visa for vacation purposes and make it easier to reside in the country.

Still, the Ministry of Justice will go through with this visa. After thorough discussions, the report stated that the ministry would release details such as implementation and eligibility.
