Netflix’s Squid Game created a global phenomenon that put Korea at the center of entertainment. It became a cultural hub and garnered many nominations in foreign and local award shows. Their latest show of influence is seen at the 28th SAG Awards.

Squid Game secured four nominations at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards. Their nomination is perhaps the most historic ever as the series is the first non-English drama series ever to be nominated for the award show.

Squid Game is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Series. Actor Lee Jung Jae is one of the nominees for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor. Actress and model Jung Ho Yeon, who recently donned Vogue, is also up for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor. The show is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble.

In a report by Korea JoongAng Daily, Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk told Variety that the SAG Awards nominations were the most surprising and happiest moment they’ve experienced.

He stated that he’s honored that two lead actors, the entire ensemble, including the stunt ensemble, were recognized. For him, it is truly an honor. He thanks every single member of the cast and crew who worked hard to make Squid Game come true.

The SAG Awards ceremony will premiere on TNT and TBS on February 27, 5 pm Pacific Time.
