WE RESPECT YOU, NAMJOON, and #lowkeymustbelowkey is currently trending after Hwaeomsa Temple monks decided to share BTS leader RM’s visit.
The monks residing in Mount Jirisan shared intimate details of RM’s visit on social media and later became a source for South Korean media outlets to create articles. These publications cited the temple’s chief monk as the elderly conversed with RM.
The temple leaked RM’s conversation on his military enlistment and other personal affairs. Korean media outlets reported that RM discussed his military enlistment and highlighted his annual donation of 500 bags to Good World Charity Bank, the children’s relief organization led by Kwaeomsa Temple’s head, Venerable Deokmun.
Korean media reported that when RM was asked what he felt about BTS’ mandatory military service, he replied, “We want to fulfill our duties to serve our country. Only then can we talk about our rights. I will take the chance to become a grown-up.” The monk stated, “I hope that BTS keeps making music of love and spread the message of love and tolerance, and not become a musician who just comes and goes.”
Naturally, this did not sit well with the BTS leader, who shared a screenshot of these articles through Instagram stories and called them out for violating his privacy. He wrote, “I was grateful for the time spent there, but didn’t expect an article about it (with a laughing emoji)” He further wrote in Korean, “Next time I’ll make a quiet visit to a different temple.” His last slide was “#lowkeymustbelowkey.” He also deleted his photos from that visit on the platform.
ARMY took this to social media and trended “WE RESPECT NAMJOON” and his last slide, disgusted that the monks would do such a thing to someone with a golden heart. Quite a damper on the start of 2023.
