After his success with The Roundup, Ma Dong-Seok is reported to return as the lead for the highly awaited apocalyptic sci-fi drama series with the tentative title Hive

Star News reported that Ma is cast as the leading protagonist for the upcoming OTT series based on the thriller webtoon Hive by author Kim Gyu-Sam. The series is about an apocalyptic world where giant insects start to spawn due to excessive high oxygen concentrations. Their existence poses a threat to human civilization.

South Korean content production company Ascendio takes the helm. Ma’s recent film The Roundup is highly praised for his amazing performance as the beast cop. In Hive, he will take the role of Gae Jang-Soo, a seasoned soldier heading the fight against the giant bugs that terrorize a city.

Kwak Kyung-Tae, famous for his record-breaking masterpiece Friend, is the co-director for Hive. Lee Khan spearheads the series after the success of his work with Disney+ Grid.

Ascendio stated that Hive would have a production budget of ₩20 billion, roughly 5,356,500 USD. Viewers can expect a total of six episodes for the first season. Ascendio plans for the series to make a global premiere. The production companies are yet to disclose details such as the series premiere date, supporting cast, and where Hive will be available to stream.
