K-pop’s best-selling girl group BLACKPINK is named the 2022 Entertainer of the Year according to TIME magazine.
The prestigious publication produced a special feature that revisits the four-member girl band’s history as a group. It also included individual interviews with each member to learn more about their thoughts and personal reflections.
TIME enumerated the group’s 2022 achievements, including their latest album “BORN PINK,” which is currently the record-holder for being the best-selling album released by a Korean girl group with more than two million album sales. The band is also the leading musical act on YouTube with more than 83 million subscribers.
The article also mentioned that BLACKPINK “managed to become the biggest girl group in the world precisely by allowing its members to be solo stars in their own right. The group may be bigger than the sum of its parts, but each of its parts is bigger than most other pop groups’ combined efforts.”
All four members of the group have successful solo careers, both in the music and fashion industry. In the report, Interscope CEO John Janick explained that it was what made the group special. “I think that really sets them apart. They’re all four stars in their own way,” he said.
BLACKPINK is currently on the European leg of their massive “BLACKPINK: BORN PINK” world tour.
