Former IZ*ONE member now solo singer Yena came under fire for her track “Hate Rodrigo.” The track was criticized for using an existing person’s name and ideas without permission. “Hate Rodrigo” references American singer Olivia Rodrigo and her tracks, as shown in the track’s MV. The criticism hasn’t stopped despite the singer’s withdrawal from her activities, and the agency is now stepping up to clear the air.
On Yena’s official website, the agency wrote, “We bow our heads deep down for being unable to inform you about the artist’s album and activities, regarding Yena’s second single ‘Hate XX’ released on June 27. We humbly accept all the criticism from fans. We promise to show fans that we heed the different opinions and try harder.”
However, the agency did not elaborate on Yena’s future, only asking fans to continue supporting her.
“Hate Rodrigo”‘s official music video was taken down only two days after its release, followed by Yena canceling a scheduled appearance on MBC’s music program on July 1, 2023. Neither the agency nor Yena made a statement about the song or her future activities.
Yena debuted in 2018 as a member of IZ*ONE, the group produced from MNet’s audition program “Produce 48.” IZ*ONE disbanded in April 2020, and Yena made her solo debut in January 2022.
